"A Parody on Princess Ida" by D. Dalziel is a humorous stage play that playfully twists the original Gilbert and Sullivan opera, using its characters and situations to poke fun at railway journeys and old-fashioned ideas about men and women. Set in the land of King Hilderbrandt, the story follows the planned meeting with King Gama and his daughter, Princess Ida. However, Princess Ida, who has given up on men and lives apart, refuses to see Prince Hilarion, the prince she's supposed to marry. Witty jokes and funny situations arise between the royal families as they try to get what they want. In the end, a surprise wedding takes place, showing the funny back-and-forth between responsibility, romance, and the charm of the Chicago and Alton Railroad, suggesting that anyone working for the Alton Road is simply too attractive to resist.
