Summary

"Drowsy" by John Ames Mitchell is a story about an American doctor and a singer, as the two live an unusual life together. Set in a beautiful villa on the Adriatic coast, the pair want nothing more than to escape the threats of scandal and settle down to start a family. At the opening of the book, the doctor recovers from injuries he got from a duel, as he is consoled by his lover's singing voice, which comforts him beyond his inability to talk. Although the doctor is recovering from his injuries, the scandal about their way of life threatens to expose their relationship. Their love and hope for a serene future stand as central ideas in the novel.
