Summary

"Amos Judd" by John Ames Mitchell is a story set in the quiet, late-19th-century American village of Daleford, where the arrival of mysterious foreigners stirs up unexpected drama. These strangers search for Josiah Judd, bringing with them a young boy whose presence hints at hidden cultural clashes and questions of identity. When a letter arrives from Mr. Judd's brother in India, it reveals the young boy's life is in danger, pulling not only the family, but the town, into a story of wealth, foreign connections, and the challenge of understanding a child from a vastly different culture; all as the boy's dignified manner clashes against the simple lives of the village, setting the stage for both conflict and connection.
