Summary

"Modus Vivendi" by Walter Bupp is a science fiction tale that untangles the intricate web of relations between Psis, people gifted with special powers, and Normals, those without such abilities. When Mary Hall, a Psi, is caught in a web of mistaken identity and accused of misusing her powers in a bank fraud, it's up to lawyer Pete Maragon to wade through the stormy world of Psis to defend her. As Maragon digs further, he finds out the reality about Mary's skills, and he is presented with the political pressures that surround her case. He is helped by Keys Crescas, a telekinetic, the attorney must make his way through a maze of lies that involves the courts and the Bar Association as he fights for Mary's rights. The story brings together power, morals, and personal honesty and results in the start of a secret group that is dedicated to protecting Psis, representing a tentative move toward peace between the two groups.
