The Right Time

"The Right Time" by John Berryman is a science fiction story where people have special mental powers, set in the 1960s, that looks at the difficulties of predicting the future and having the power to move things with your mind. The story follows Dr. Walter Bupp, nicknamed "Lefty", who finds a woman named Pheola in Nevada who can see the future and has healing powers. Their relationship grows as Pheola predicts that the Grand Master of their group, Pete Maragon, will have a heart attack. Lefty struggles to believe in Pheola's abilities but also wants to protect her as she learns to control her powers. Together, they create a plan to make sure Maragon gets help in time, which helps Lefty understand Pheola's gifts, and she becomes a welcomed member of the Psi community. The story combines funny moments, tense situations, and interesting observations about people and their relationships, all while looking at the connection between psychic abilities and becoming a better version of yourself.
