Summary

"The Disowned — Complete" by Edward Bulwer Lytton is a narrative set in the early 1800s that centers around Clarence Linden and his quest for self. We meet Clarence as he is drawn to the freedoms of unconventional life when he interacts with a towering gypsy while venturing through the soft English countryside. Clarence’s decision sets him on a journey where he meets the rustic charm of a nomadic group, and he is given a new perspective on the world far from his previous upper-class lifestyle. This new world is in stark contrast to his own, and as Clarence is faced with new people and places, he begins to grapple with his identity and what it means to be truly free.
