Summary

"Heriot's Choice: A Tale" by Rosa Nouchette Carey is the story of Mildred Lambert who faces difficult life changes in the late 1800s. After years of caring for her sick mother, Mildred is asked to help her brother Arnold whose wife recently passed away; she leaves her quiet life to help her brother's family. She struggles with duty, family relationships, and the sadness that comes with loss. Mildred feels stuck and alone until a call from her brother shows her a new purpose, but she worries she won't be so successful in this new role. When she meets Polly, Doctor Heriot's ward, she will face even more changes needed to adjust to her evolving life.
