Blind Time

"Blind Time" by George O. Smith is a science fiction story about what happens when the future is known. Peter Wright, an insurance adjuster, has to figure out an accident that is sure to happen at a factory. Imagine knowing something bad will occur but feeling powerless to stop it; that's what Peter and the factory workers experience as they struggle with this strange situation. The factory workers, dealing with dread, show Peter pieces of machinery missing in time. When Peter gets caught up in the accident himself, the story shows how hard, or even impossible, it is to change what seems like fate. The book makes you think about time, choices, and how people act when they feel like what's going to happen is already decided.
