"Louie's Married Life" by Sarah Doudney is a story set in the late 1800s. It follows a young wife, Louie Hepburne, as she deals with the ups and downs of being married to her husband, Ronald, particularly because he's just gotten better from being very sick. The story looks at love, giving things up for others, and how tricky relationships can be, mainly because Louie is thinking hard about her past and her life now. Right at the beginning, we see Louie feeling thoughtful and grateful because Ronald is healthy again after a scary fever. They're moving on from a sad time in London to hopefully a better, brighter life in a new place. Louie really loves Ronald, but she also feels unsure of herself, which suggests there may be problems later on. A dramatic moment happens when their taxi flips over, showing how life can suddenly change. Ronald's guitar also plays a key part, reminding us of his past and hinting there's more to his feelings than we know, which might come out later in the story. The start of the book sets the scene for a touching look at love and the difficulties of marriage.
