Summary

"The Translation of a Savage, Complete" by Gilbert Parker is a story from the late 1800's that looks closely at what happens when different cultures meet and how people change. It follows Frank Armour, who decides to marry Lali, an Indian girl, because he's upset with his family. The book explores the problems in their marriage as they try to understand each other's very different lives. We meet Frank after his girlfriend, Julia Sherwood, gets married to someone else. He's heartbroken and, without thinking, marries Lali, the daughter of an Indian chief. It seems like he's just trying to get back at his family, not because he really loves her. As the story goes on, Frank's family has a hard time accepting Lali, especially because she's coming to England, which will cause even more problems. The beginning of the book shows a lot of drama and some funny moments as the Armours try to deal with Frank's quick decision, which leads to cultural and personal struggles.
