Summary

"The Trespasser" by Gilbert Parker is a tale set in the late 1800s that follows Gaston Belward, a man with a diverse background, who goes back to England to assert his position in the prestigious Ridley Court. Gaston accompanied by his servant Jacques Brillon, make their entrance into London, turning heads with their impressive style and behavior as they make their way to Ridley Court. The book explores topics of identity and acceptance as he deals with his complicated family history and the expectations of the upper class, where readers learn there are lingering worries and animosity surrounding Sir William Belward and his distant son, Robert Belward, Gaston's dad.. Parker starts to put together Gaston's background and the challenges he has to overcome as he seeks to reclaim his heritage.
