Summary

"The Caxtons: A Family Picture — Complete" by Edward Bulwer Lytton is a mid-19th century novel centered around the Caxton family and told through the eyes of Pisistratus Caxton, exploring the intricate details of their domestic life, and how family relationships shape who they become. The story begins with Austin Caxton, a learned man more interested in books than the arrival of his son, Pisistratus; this shows his struggle to be a good parent while also chasing his intellectual passions. The heartwarming, often humorous interactions reveal Austin's unique approach to family and sets the stage for a story about how everyday life within a family influences personal growth.
