Summary

"Super Man and the Bug Out" by Cory Doctorow is a science fiction story that looks at what happens when a superhero's job becomes obsolete after the arrival of the Bugout Federation, an interstellar alliance promising peace and stability. Our hero, Hershie Abromowicz, known as Super Man, struggles to find his place in a world where war and crime are supposedly things of the past. He starts questioning his identity and purpose as he faces funny family dynamics, activist friends, and a changed political world. The story builds to a face-off at DefenseFest 33, where Hershie challenges the system, embraces his identity, and stands up for self-determination in a world that thinks it no longer needs a powerful protector.
