Summary

"The Second Dandy Chater" by Tom Gallon is an early 20th-century novel about Philip Crowdy, whose life is upended when he discovers he looks just like a deceased, shady character named Dandy Chater. After encountering Patience Miller, a young woman who mistakes him for Chater, Crowdy gets drawn deep into Chater's complicated life, especially the tricky situation of Chater being engaged to two different women. Set against the backdrop of the stark Essex countryside, Crowdy faces tough choices and moral questions as he pretends to be someone he's not, and learns about Chater's hidden secrets, pulling him into a dangerous situation filled with tricky relationships.
