Summary

"The Dust of Conflict" by Harold Bindloss is a story about a young man named Bernard Appleby, who is trying to find his way in the world while dealing with tough choices about friendship and doing what's right. Set in England, the book mainly looks at how hard it can be to stay true to yourself when society and the people around you have different ideas about love and success. We see Appleby start off hunting with his relative Anthony Palliser, but things quickly get complicated when he learns some not-so-good things about Palliser. Appleby also gets close to Violet Wayne, who is engaged to Palliser, and she tells him she worries about Tony. As the story goes on, there is blackmail involved, and Appleby has to decide if he should help Palliser out of a difficult spot, even though it might cause problems for everyone.
