Summary

"Wau-Bun: The 'Early Day' of the North-West" by John H. Kinzie is a story from the 1800's, telling of the author and her husband's move to the American Northwest, in particular the Chicago area. The book shares what it was like between the settlers, the Native Americans, and how the culture of the region was changing. Starting in September 1830, the author leaves Detroit on a steamer to start her adventure. The author tells of being stuck in a storm and thinks of her dream of living in "Indian country". She is excited about the places she has dreamed about, as she shares stories of traveling, meeting nice people, and the difficulties of the journey. This gives a good beginning to her experiences and the history of this time.
