"The Parasite: A Story" by Arthur Conan Doyle is a story set in the 1800s about scientist Professor Austin Gilroy getting involved with the strange powers of Miss Helen Penclosa, a woman who can see the future and control people with her mind; this challenges everything he thinks is real. He is a hard-headed physiologist who doesn't believe in any of this stuff, unlike his friend Professor Wilson who is into psychology and mesmerism. The professor witnesses strange events including those involving his fiancee, Agatha, that he can't explain. As the story goes on, the professor has to work out his feelings, the strange events and how they will change his life. It's a suspenseful story about what happens when science meets the supernatural.
