For the Sake of the School

"For the Sake of the School" by Angela Brazil is a school story set in a boarding school called The Woodlands, where we follow the lives of schoolgirls, especially Ulyth Stanton and her new roommate Rona Mitchell, who is arriving all the way from New Zealand. The story looks at themes like growing up, learning about yourself, and how friendships can form even when people come from very different backgrounds, and the novel opens with excitement as schoolgirls gather at the train station to welcome friends. But when Ulyth’s pen pal, Rona, finally arrives, Ulyth is let down because Rona isn’t what she expected. This sets the scene for a story about how Ulyth and Rona learn to deal with their differences, and and relationship challenges as they navigate boarding school life together.
