Summary

"Love Me Little, Love Me Long" by Charles Reade is a story set in the social world of the mid-1800s, where we meet Lucy Fountain, a young woman facing life and love head-on. After losing her mother, Lucy finds herself under the watchful eyes of her guardians, which brings about a lot of interactions, diving into topics of love, dreams, and being one's own person. The book starts with Lucy settling in with her Aunt Bazalgette, and through their smart conversations, we get to know the characters and the ups and downs they're dealing with. Lucy's connection with her cousin Reginald is full of fun back-and-forth, while her aunt isn't afraid to show her annoyance with what society expects, especially when it comes to marriage and looking good. As Lucy moves from one guardian to another, we begin to see her struggle with what she wants versus what's expected of her, hinting at a journey where love and finding herself will be big challenges.
