Summary

"Troilus and Criseyde" by Geoffrey Chaucer is a story from the 1300s about love and what happens when people fall for each other during a war. It's about Troilus, a prince, who used to not care about love but then falls hard for Criseyde, a woman dealing with her dad betraying their city. The story looks at how love can bring great happiness but also a lot of sadness, especially when things get tough because everyone is in the middle of the Trojan War. The way the story starts makes you feel like something bad is going to happen, as the person telling the story asks for help to tell this sad tale about these two lovers.

About the Author

Geoffrey Chaucer was an English poet, author, and civil servant best known for The Canterbury Tales. He has been called the "father of English literature", or, alternatively, the "father of English poetry". He was the first writer to be buried in what has since come to be called Poets' Corner, in Westminster Abbey. Chaucer also gained fame as a philosopher and astronomer, composing the scientific A Treatise on the Astrolabe for his 10-year-old son, Lewis. He maintained a career in the civil service as a bureaucrat, courtier, diplomat, and member of parliament.
