"Autres Temps..." by Edith Wharton is a thoughtful story set in the early 1900s about a woman named Mrs. Lidcote as she comes back to New York after being away for many years. It's about remembering the past, how society changes, and figuring out who you are. The story follows Mrs. Lidcote as she reflects on the past and watches her daughter, Leila, repeat some of her mistakes concerning her romantic history. When she gets to New York, Mrs. Lidcote feels lonely and worried, especially because her daughter just got divorced and remarried. Talking to friends from the past, she starts to understand how alone she really is and how society has changed, affecting her place in it. In the end, the story is about trying to make peace with your past and finding a way to fit in again when the world has moved forward.
