Summary

"Afternoon" by Émile Verhaeren is a collection of poems that explores the tender moments of love, the beauty of the natural world, and how time changes everything. It takes you into a garden filled with sunlight and flowers, where two lovers share a deep connection. The poems look at how love can be both joyful and a little sad, as the speaker thinks about how time passes and things change. However, the speaker always comes back to the idea that their love will last, even as the years go by, finding comfort and renewal in their relationship as they face the difficulties of life together.
