Summary

"The Youngest Girl in the Fifth: A School Story" by Angela Brazil is a story about a young girl named Gwen Gascoyne who finds herself in a difficult situation at Rodenhurst school. Only fourteen, Gwen suddenly gets moved up to the Fifth Form, making her the youngest in the class. This big change brings on lots of drama as the older girls become jealous and unwelcoming, making Gwen feel like an outsider. She really wants to show everyone that she belongs there and is smart enough, but it's hard to handle all the mean behavior and her own feelings of insecurity. As Gwen tries to make friends and deal with rivals, she has to find her place in the complicated social world of the school.
