Summary

"Robin Tremayne" by Emily Sarah Holt is a gripping historical fiction set in the 1550s, during a time when being Protestant in England was perilous under Queen Mary's rule. The book tells the story of brave Protestants like Robin Tremayne, who risks everything to share his beliefs despite the constant threat of being thrown in jail or worse. The story paints a portrait of ordinary people whose strong faith helps them stand up to unfair treatment. The reader first meets the Tremayne family, including Robin's calm mother, Custance, and witnesses friends and family gathering to talk of health and current events. When news arrives that King Henry VIII has died, people feel worried and excited, which leads to Protestants feeling hopeful. This chapter sets the scene for a story filled with both personal struggles and society-wide tension, drawing the reader into a world where faith and sheer determination are the only tools against oppression.
