Summary

"The Red Redmaynes" by Eden Phillpotts is a novel set in the early 20th century where Inspector Mark Brendon, trying to relax in Dartmoor, England, finds himself caught up in a puzzling murder mystery involving the troubled Redmayne family. While on vacation, Brendon’s peaceful fishing trip is interrupted as he meets a fascinating woman, soon followed by news of a murder. The victim, Michael Pendean, is suspected to have been killed by Captain Robert Redmayne, igniting a spiral of family drama and secrets. As the investigation begins, Brendon grapples with his own thoughts about family, love, and what drives people, while the characters are introduced, particularly Jenny Pendean, the grieving widow. The once peaceful English countryside soon turns into a scene of suspicion and hidden motives as Brendon works through personal struggles and psychological puzzles to discover the truth behind the murder.
