The Soul of Abraham Lincoln

"The Soul of Abraham Lincoln" by William E. Barton is a study of Abraham Lincoln's religious views. The book looks at the different stories and arguments about Lincoln's beliefs to get to the truth of his religious life. Barton explains that some books say Lincoln was not religious, while others claim he was a strong believer in Christianity, and Barton looks closely at the evidence to understand how Lincoln's faith changed over time. The book's goal is to objectively look at Lincoln's religious beliefs without the influence of politics or sensationalism. By looking at different accounts and the history of that time, Barton paints a picture of Lincoln's spiritual journey.
