Summary

"The Flying Doctor" by Molière is a funny play from a long time ago that's all about being sneaky and in love. A young guy named Valère really wants to marry Lucile, but her dad, Gorgibus, wants her to marry someone else who is rich but not very nice. So, Valère comes up with a plan to trick Gorgibus by dressing up his goofy servant, Sganarelle, like a doctor. Sganarelle pretends to know a lot about medicine, even though he doesn't, and it leads to some really funny situations. In the end, Valère and Lucile get to be together, and Gorgibus learns to accept their love, making it a happy and funny ending.

About the Author

Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Molière, was a French playwright, actor, and poet, widely regarded as one of the great writers in the French language and world literature. His extant works include comedies, farces, tragicomedies, comédie-ballets, and more. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed at the Comédie-Française more often than those of any other playwright today. His influence is such that the French language is often referred to as the "language of Molière".
