Summary

"The Little Savage" by Frederick Marryat is an adventure story set in the 1800s. Living on a deserted island, young Frank Henniker deals with the challenges of isolation under the harsh guidance of Jackson, a character with a troubled background, as the only two inhabitants of the island. The story examines Frank's journey as he struggles to survive, define his identity, all while grappling with the differences between savagery and civilization, and also the relationship he has with Jackson. Frank’s memories begin to reveal the shipwreck that initially stranded him, leading to a greater understanding of his situation. The dark and often violent dynamic between him and Jackson creates a constant test of Frank's developing sense of right and wrong.
