Summary

"The Cockatoo's Story" by George Cupples is a children's tale that explores themes of gratitude and regret through the eyes of a white cockatoo. The cockatoo is unhappy and ashamed of how he has treated his kind owner, Master Herbert. A gray parrot, Mrs. Polly, encourages the cockatoo to share his story, and when Herbert arrives, the cockatoo, in an act of reconciliation, accepts cake from him and begins to recount his life, starting with his days of freedom with his family in his homeland, the Indian Islands, eventually leading to his captivity.
