"Flora" by A. L. O. E. is a tale from the 1800s that follows Flora as she and her cousin Ada Murray experience very different ways of life, one in the quiet countryside and the other in the busy city. The story looks at what society expects from people and how easy it is to fool yourself, especially when Flora is trying to decide if she wants to be happy with her peaceful country life or if she wants the excitement of a more active social scene. Flora’s love for her simple life in the country is clear when the story opens, but Ada can't wait for the parties and events of London. They talk about Flora’s small group of friends, the good things her family has done for their village, and Flora’s own thoughts about being faithful and judging others. These early parts of the book show Flora’s hidden desires, her wish for something more thrilling, and how she gets mixed up with her worldly cousin's world, which will lead to difficulties that test what she believes and how she acts.
