Summary

"An Old-Fashioned Girl" by Louisa May Alcott is a story that tells of Polly Milton, a girl from the countryside, who finds herself in the big city visiting her stylish friend, Fanny Shaw. Polly's time in the city shows how different life is in the country compared to the city, and the book looks at being innocent and simple. When Polly gets to the city, her interactions with Fanny's family, especially her brother Tom, highlight these differences. Fanny is all about the latest trends, but Polly sticks to her traditional values. These early meetings set the scene for Polly as she faces new situations that put her beliefs to the test, all while trying to keep her friendships strong in a world that cares more about appearances than what's real.
