Summary

"A Little Girl in Old Detroit" by Amanda M. Douglas is a story set in the past, around the time of big changes in Detroit, where we meet Jeanne Angelot, a lively young girl who grew up with an Indian woman after being left alone as a baby, because her mother was declared dead.. The book looks at what it means to find yourself, feel like you belong, and how different groups – French, English, and Indigenous people—interacted. Jeanne, full of life and questions, wants to know where she comes from. At the beginning of the story, we see her with Pani, her guardian, and her friend Louis Marsac, dealing with a town changing because of the American Revolution. Jeanne's strong spirit and desire for adventure pull us into her quest to uncover the secrets of her past.
