Summary

"The Pearl of Lima: A Story of True Love" by Jules Verne is a tale unfolding in 19th-century Lima, Peru, where social divides simmer beneath the surface. It centers on André Certa, a rich man caught between social classes, and Sarah, his fiancée, whose heart is drawn to Martin Paz, an Indian hero. The story opens in the lively Plaza-Mayor, revealing Certa's frustration with his place in society and introducing Martin Paz as a defender of the innocent. From the bustling city square to intimate glimpses into the characters' desires, the story explores love, social inequality, and ethnic tensions as these individuals find themselves entangled in a conflict that will test their loyalties and change their lives forever.
