Summary

"Contigo Pan y Cebolla" by Manuel Eduardo de Gorostiza is a funny play from the 1800s that shows us a slice of Spanish life through the eyes of a family dealing with love and what people expect from them. The story centers on DoƱa Matilde, who is confused about her feelings for Don Eduardo because her dad cares more about money than love. The play starts with DoƱa Matilde worried about her future and talking to her servant, Bruno, about her dad's decision on who she should marry. When Don Eduardo shows up, their jokes hint at something more, but Matilde is stuck between what she wants and what her dad wants. As the play goes on, we see the characters struggling with their feelings and what society thinks they should do, which leads to funny mix-ups and surprises as it looks at love and family responsibilities.
