Summary

"The Children of Wilton Chase" by L. T. Meade is a story focused on the lives of children living at Wilton Chase and their journey through the trials of childhood. The story centers on characters like the headstrong Ermengarde, her considerate sister Marjorie, and their governess, Miss Nelson, who struggles to balance her care for the children with her need to maintain discipline. The story starts with Ermengarde actively resisting Miss Nelson, highlighting her strong desire for freedom as her brothers return home. While Ermengarde is keen on breaking the rules, Marjorie is more understanding and supportive, even when it means facing the repercussions with her sister. The book highlights the spirited interactions and disputes between the children, especially when it comes to themes like obedience and rebellion, which establishes the environment for a dramatic examination of ethics, faithfulness, and individual development among youths.
