Summary

"The Scratch Pack" by Dorothea Conyers is a story that takes place during World War I, following the life of Gheena Freyne and the people around her. Gheena lives in Duncahir and is the heiress of Castle Freyne, but she faces many challenges as she deals with the impact of the war. She cares about her dog, Crabbit, and tries to support those affected by the war, like Darby Dillon, a soldier who got hurt. Despite everything, Darby stays positive. The story shows Gheena's strength as she handles her family, including her stepfather and mother, and tries to deal with the secrets kept by Basil Stafford. The beginning of the story is calm, but it also makes you think about the problems caused by the war and what will happen to the characters as they face their own battles.
