Summary

"Pretty Geraldine, the New York Salesgirl; or, Wedded to Her Choice" by Alex. McVeigh Miller is a story that follows Geraldine, a striking salesgirl with dreams of gracing the stage, as she navigates love and ambition in late 19th-century New York. The narrative starts with Geraldine amidst the hustle of her dry-goods store, playfully bantering with her friend Cissy, when the charismatic actor Clifford Standish appears, drawn by Geraldine’s beauty and promising to make her acting dreams a reality, inciting Cissy's wariness about the perils of such a path. Amidst this tension, Geraldine must balance her yearning for stardom with the realities of her world, as her interactions with Clifford and a courageous fireman lead her down a path of tough decisions, setting the stage for a dramatic exploration of her heart and her future.
