Summary

"The Fair Rewards" by Thomas Beer is a story set in the late 1800s that follows John Carlson, a worried theater manager trying to make a hit show in New York. He's dealing with a lot: an actress that might not be good enough and the stress of opening night for his new play, "Nicoline." As he works with the playwright, Mr. Fitch, and an actress with common sense, Cora Boyle, it’s clear that Carlson's health and money problems are making his own dreams hard to reach, all while he's caught in the drama of the theater world, where making it or breaking it is just a matter of time.
