Janice Day

"Janice Day" by Helen Beecher Long is a story about a lively girl who leaves her home in Greensboro and travels to the little town of Poketown. She's looking for excitement and a new life with her family while her father is in Mexico taking care of business problems. Janice is curious and determined as she explores her new surroundings and meets new people. At the start, Janice arrives in Poketown on a boat; expressing amazement at the beauty of the place, and revealing she does not know the area. She quickly shows her energetic personality and desire to connect with others, especially Mrs. Scattergood, an old woman she meets. When she gets to her uncle's house, it appears run-down and messy, which shows the difficulties that Janice will experience in this new place. These beginning chapters set the stage for Janice's adventures in Poketown, highlighting her strength and willingness to change as she handles the strange lives of her relatives.
