"The End of Elfintown" by Jane Barlow is a poetic fantasy adventure set in the 1890s, in which a magical kingdom falls under the shadow of its king's ambition. Oberon, captivated by visions of a majestic city, orders his Elfin subjects to construct Elfintown, stealing their carefree existence and thrusting them into relentless labor. As discontent spreads like wildfire, the Elves discover that an evil witch's spell has twisted Oberon's mind, forcing young Elfmel to embark on a courageous adventure to find the Good Gray Witch, risking everything to restore joy and freedom to their enchanted land, ultimately bringing their own creation down in a final desperate act.
