Summary

"A Romance in Transit" by Francis Lynde is a story set on a train in the late 1800s. It follows Frederick Brockway, a passenger agent, as he grapples with his feelings for Gertrude Vennor, the daughter of a rich railroad president, exploring the challenges of love and societal expectations among different travelers. The story kicks off by introducing all the different people on the train, and an important conversation between Brockway and Mrs. Burton, who jokingly guesses Brockway’s hidden feelings for Miss Vennor, noticing they’ve met before. As the train rolls along, Brockway wrestles with his position in life and his growing love for Gertrude, complicating everything, setting the stage for romance mixed with the social issues of the time.
