Summary

"The Taming of Red Butte Western" by Francis Lynde is a story set in the early 1900s. It follows Howard Lidgerwood, who, though unsure of himself, becomes the superintendent of the Red Butte Western railroad. The railroad which is located in a wild, desert area, is full of disorder and dangerous characters. Howard struggles with his own fears, which we see when he talks to Stuart Ford, who is pushing him to take the job. As Howard steps into his new job, the book tells of him facing the challenges of leading in a tough place, dealing with outlaws and rough workers, and finding his courage. Though his new position makes him uneasy, Howard is determined to bring order to the lawless railroad.
