Summary

"The Necromancers" by Robert Hugh Benson is a story where Mrs. Baxter, a religious widow, frets over her son Laurie's relationships and becoming Catholic amidst the sorrow caused by Amy Nugent's passing. The story shows characters dealing with sadness, right and wrong, and the possibility of the supernatural. Mrs. Baxter is worried about Laurie’s love life and his spiritual path, while Maggie, a friend, questions some of Laurie's choices and how he thinks about love. Laurie is struggling with his sadness and really wants to feel connected to Amy, even after she has died. The book looks at the connection between and love and death, the search for what things mean, and the possibility of reaching those who have passed away.

About the Author

Robert Hugh Benson AFSC KC*SG KGCHS was an English Catholic priest and writer. First an Anglican priest, he was received into the Catholic Church in 1903 and ordained therein the next year. He was also a prolific writer of fiction, writing the notable dystopian novel Lord of the World, as well as Come Rack! Come Rope!.
