Summary

"By What Authority?" by Robert Hugh Benson is a gripping story that takes place in a small village during the religious wars of Elizabethan England. It follows the Maxwell family, who stick to their Catholic beliefs, and the Norris family, who are Protestant, showing how their lives get mixed up in a time of big changes and problems. The book looks closely at what happens to people when the world around them is fighting over religion, looking at important ideas like staying true to what you believe and being loyal to your family, all while England deals with huge religious changes.
