Summary

"The Revolt of the Oyster" by Don Marquis is a comical story that uses talking animals and the beginnings of humans to make fun of evolution and how people interact with their environment. The story kicks off with Probably Arboreal, an early human, as he watches people enjoy the beach and thinks deeply about love and relationships. He gets bothered by his neighbor, Slightly Simian, who is always arguing with his family, making him think even more about finding love, especially with a lively red-haired girl. Things get wild when Probably Arboreal has to battle a huge oyster, turning into a public show that highlights the strength of nature and where humans fit in. This crazy fight gets the reader ready for a story about staying alive and the possibility of things turning upside down when faced with basic challenges.
