Summary

"The Taming of the Shrew" by William Shakespeare is a funny play from the late 1500s that looks at love, marriage, and what people expected from men and women. It mainly follows Petruchio and Katherina Minola, who is known for being rude and quick to argue, as they try to make their relationship work. The play is funny and smart, and it makes people think about what society expects. At the beginning, a drunken man named Christopher Sly is tricked into thinking he is a nobleman, setting the scene for all the plays within the play. People are introduced to Lucentio, in addition too Katherina. The early interactions between characters foreshadow some humorous conflicts regarding relationships and love.

About the Author

William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays, 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Shakespeare remains arguably the most influential writer in the English language, and his works continue to be studied and reinterpreted.
