Summary

"Queen Lucia" by E. F. Benson is a comedic story depicting the life of Emmeline Lucas, or Lucia, a woman who fancies herself the uncrowned ruler of her little village of Riseholme. Eager to impress upon her arrival, she imagines what others are thinking about her. After returning from London, Lucia contrasts the exciting city life with the calmer, more refined vibe of Riseholme, as she shares updates with her husband, Peppino. When an intriguing Indian guest arrives, a friend of Lucia's, this causes tension. Lucia and the newcomer may compete for influence in their small and gossipy town.
