Summary

"Samuel Brohl and Company" by Victor Cherbuliez is a story that starts with Count Abel Larinski, a man whose dreams of being an inventor are crashing down, and Mlle. Antoinette Moriaz, an unmarried woman with plenty of money and freedom, as they live very different lives that will eventually bring them together. Early on it is revealed that the Count's failed weapon invention has left him broke and struggling with sadness, while Mlle. Moriaz spends her time helping others and enjoying her independence. The story likely touches upon big ideas like chasing dreams, how tough life can be, and what society expects from marriage. Their paths cross in Chur, Switzerland, and from there, the story becomes more interesting as Mlle. Moriaz thinks about who she might want to marry, especially her childhood friend Camille Langis, and Abel considers whether love might offer him a fresh start after dealing with both sadness and chasing success in the past.
