Summary

"The Prairie Chief" by R. M. Ballantyne is an adventure about a brave Red Indian named Whitewing, respected by his tribe for his smarts and courage. The story follows his journey to protect his people and figure out who he is amidst cultural clashes and spiritual questions. Whitewing starts off wanting to marry Lightheart while dealing with his own doubts, and he's shown as a kind warrior who respects women, a different image than what's usually expected. We also learn about his friendship with Little Tim, a funny trapper, as they get ready for a missionary's sermon and worry about a possible attack from Blackfoot warriors. When Whitewing learns about the danger, he knows he has to act fast to save his tribe and the people he cares about.
