Summary

"The Lifeboat" by R. M. Ballantyne is a tale set in old London, where the scene opens in a busy and tough neighborhood, bringing readers face-to-face with shipowners and sailors. The story is about John Bax, a young sailor who has been put in charge of a ship named "Nancy". The ship isn't in good shape, so trouble is sure to come when they sail. The start of the adventure shows the quiet of Redwharf Lane and the stressful talks between stubborn Mr. Denham, who owns the “Nancy,” and determined young Bax, about whether the ship is fit to sail the seas.. Bax insists that the ship is fixed, but Mr. Denham ignores him. At the same time, Bax gets ready to travel to Liverpool while dealing with tough situations in the wharf office. As the story builds, readers sense that something big and scary will happen at sea, hinting at bravery, sacrifice, and the dangers the characters will soon face on the unfortunate ship.
